About the Opportunity
As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist at Pair Team, you will play an important role in supporting our growing employee base. You will be responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing for our nationwide, remote team of hourly and salaried employees. In addition, you will manage tax and compliance obligations, and coordinate employee benefits and wellbeing programs. You will collaborate closely with the People and Finance teams as well as benefit vendors and tax agencies. This role requires a highly organized individual with strong knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and benefits administration.
This is a fully remote position reporting to the People Operations Manager.
What You’ll Do
- Process bi-weekly hourly payroll and semi-monthly salaried payrolls for our large, US-remote employee population
- Manage bi-weekly timecard approvals with resources, reminders, and direct support for managers
- Manage state and local payroll tax accounts and register for tax accounts in new jurisdictions as we continue to grow
- Oversee day-to-day operations of US benefit plans including enrollment support, monthly benefit billing, qualifying life events and team member questions about coverage
- Partner with benefits brokers to ensure plans comply with state and federal laws and regulations
- Drive utilization of our benefit plans through education and communications across the organization
- Conduct regular audits of benefit programs, payroll deductions, and carrier data
- Support annual payroll and benefit processes including benefits open enrollment, benefit audits, quarter-end and year-end
- Manage self-service resources and continually improve them based on support tickets
- Continually improve the payroll and benefits processes in partnership with the People Operations Manager to ensure accuracy and efficiency that scales as we grow
What You’ll Need
- 2+ years of experience managing complex, multi-state payroll processing and benefits / wellbeing programs
- Experience supporting large hourly populations with time cards and time-off
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, as well as employment laws
- Strong understanding of leave of absence (LOA) types and administration
- Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex payroll & benefits information effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
- Proficient with Excel/GoogleSheets, HRIS, and payroll software (Rippling is a plus!)
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with shifting priorities

- Passion for helping individuals experiencing complex chronic needs such as homelessness, severe mental illness, and substance use disorder
