Community Justice and Community Justice Action Fund work to reduce gun violence in Black and brown communities by empowering those closest to the pain. Community Justice is seeking an experienced Director of Programs to lead the organization’s field and programmatic operations at the state and local levels to bring about change across the country to end gun violence. This position will be managed by the Vice President of Policy and will be a member of the organization’s Senior Leadership Team, alongside the Director of Communications, Director of Fundraising and Strategics Partnerships, and Director of Finance and Operations. The Director of Programs will manage the field team to build and strengthen a national network of activists, volunteers, and policymakers to advocate for change. The Director of Programs will lead local and state campaigns to apply pressure on decision makers to advance policy by working within and alongside coalitions, identifying advocacy opportunities, and organizing partners to lobby lawmakers at critical moments. An ideal candidate will have significant policy, community organizing, and advocacy experience, as well as knowledge of state and local lawmaking processes. The ideal candidate will have managed projects and campaigns from start to finish, including experience building broad multi-racial and multi-stakeholder support that has led to clear victories.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Policy Development: Work with the Vice President of Policy to research and analyze evidence-informed policies and initiatives to prevent community violence, with a focus on addressing root causes and systemic issues.

Campaign Strategy & Initiatives: Develop comprehensive campaign strategies to advance policy objectives, including legislative advocacy, public education, media outreach, and grassroots mobilization. Will include managing the States’ team’s recruitment of lawmakers for the Policymakers for Peace Network.

Coalition Building: Work with the Vice President of Policy to support national coalitions for Community Justice. Build and maintain strong relationships with national and local organizations, advocacy groups, policymakers, and community leaders to build coalitions and partnerships in support of violence prevention efforts. Build and strengthen strategic coalitions with other organizations, elected officials, government agencies and relevant stakeholders.

Public Education and Awareness: Develop and implement public education campaigns to raise awareness about the impact of community violence, promote evidence-based solutions, and mobilize public support for policy change. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement long-term strategic plans and campaign timelines to achieve policy goals and maximize impact. Build strategic vision for the state policy programs department, advocacy campaigns and organizing efforts to advance policy at the local, state and national level.

Supervision and Collaboration: Manage the States team and support their efforts to develop state and local level policy programs, partnerships, and advocacy training events. Lead and manage contractors such as lobbyists and consultants to strengthen Community Justice programs. Manage the state programs departmental budget in collaboration with the Executive and Senior Leadership teams.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of policy advocacy and campaign efforts, track progress towards goals, and make adjustments as needed to maximize impact.

Direct Representation: Deliver testimony to government agencies, briefings, press conferences to elevate narrative of policy and advocacy campaigns and programs.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Represent Community Justice at key events, hearings, meetings and tables.
